firearms and choppers (the choppers belonging to the ship) kept guard on us. Before I was pushed into the tween deck I heard many reports of firearms from the upper deck. I did not see any European officers in the tween deck. 7 or 8 other pirates then came into the tween deck and searched our persons and luggage, they stole all monies and valuable things from the passengers.

I had nothing on my person. The pirates told the cooks and boys to prepare food and rice for us.

Four pirates kept guard over us in tween deck for 3 days. One pirate came into the treen deck and asked me for the safe keys as he had found the photo of mine in the Compradore's cabin. I was then obliged to give all my keys. I was kept in the tween deck with all the passengers and ship's employees for 3 days. At about 08.00 hours on the 16th January, 1925, Chung Shun Loi, ship's crew, came and told us that all the pirates had left the ship. We all came up. I went into my cabin and found all my money in the safe and clothing in different boxes had been atollen by the pirates, the money and clothing as follows:- $3,333.00 consisting of $2,730.00 in $10 and $5 Singapore Bank Notes, $528.00 in $10 and $5 Fukien Chinese Bank Notes (these kind of notes have the name of the Bank of China and with chop of Fukien on), $50 in Fukien silver dollars and $25 in Fukien silver coins, 2 red blankets value $5 each, and 2 white singlets value $2 each, total value $3,347.00. The pirates spoke in Tukien, Hoklo, Bakka and Cantonese dialects. As far as I can say there were about 35 pirates: they were all armed with revolvers, pistols and choppers. The choppers I believe they got from our ship. All pirates boarded our ship at Singapore as passengers, I do not know any of them. I have never seen any of them before. They did not strike any of the passengers or crew. They stole about 30 rattan hand bags and leather hand bags from the passengers to contain their booty.
